The adventure
Here I was again, I woke up that day Wednesday, February 4th, 2026, I had an idea, I had 2 free days again, and I was ready for a new adventure, so, I went to my laptop and researched on the Bivakzone Official website, Where do I want to go this time?
I wanted to cross borders, I have this strange obsession for crossing country borders, so I decided for Bivakzone Meetshovenbos (Aarschot), it was nearby the border with The Netherlands, looked cozy, it was a bit farther that the last one I went to, but still doable, I looked into my kitchen, what provisions do I have? Not much, but enough. I packed my bike with the most necessary, again it was winter, so I shouldn’t go to late and I needed to stay warm, so my bike again was pretty heavy with wood (not as much as the last time, because I saw that most of the Bivakzones have wood), lots of bottles of water, food, tent, sleeping bags, extra clothes, and electronics.
The ride
The way to the camping site was beautiful, next to canals, woods, of course I also ride around cities, but I truly enjoy the way to it, the views were amazing, and went on a good pace, but it was far and it took me 2hr 30min, it was a nice weather, cold, but nice.
There was a moment that I wanted to go to this bar I saw on the other side of the canal, that I saw from far, but, it was on the other side of the canal and no way to cross it, without going back a couple of kilometres, so I decided just to continue, I was sweating so much, but I needed to content with my plain water.
Camping
This time, it was really easy to find the camping site, there were good signs while arriving to it, it was already getting dark, but there was a small issue… there ware people already there… and I know, is not like is a private place, but I imagine that it was winter and people prefer to camp in summer, but apparently there were crazy people like me, anyways, I felt uncomfortable, cause it was 2 guys, and I was alone, I tried to looked around, I didn’t find the toilet, so I assume there was not, but again I didn’t feel free to go around, there was only one fire pit, and these guys were there, if I was a social person, maybe I’ll share, but I was not, so after I build my tent I just stay there reading, I was so hungry, but I didn’t want to join them.
I could hear them talk so loud, I didn’t have the experience I was hoping to, no complete silence, like the last time, and they were in the fire pit place until past midnight, I heard them going to their tents, waited a little longer so I was sure I could be alone with the fire, then I took my coffee cup and my ready-to-the-fire potato and sat next to the fire pit, started the fire again, and in silence eat my dinner.
The website, is a really basic website, with information and likes to reserve a spot in this camping sites, and it cost nothing, but it would be nice also to see how many spaces are left, or if is occupied it already, so I or people that enjoy the alone time, don’t have to deal with this kind of stuff.
Hiking?
I wanted to go for a long walk, but there were not many walking paths, it was more for biking, so I made my own route, leave most of my stuff in the tent, the guys were up already and I prayed, that they leave before I came back.
Around 11 kilometres I walked, I have to say, they were nice parts, but most of the way was not as nice as expected, there was not much shadow to walk, the paths were more for cars, that for walking, I was tired, cause I couldn’t sleep well knowing that there was other people close to my tent, but thats basically my problem, I walk and walk under the hot sun, and when I got back to the campsite, thanks God, they were gone, then I could find that there was a place to go to the toilet, not an actual toilet, but it was like a closed zone for it, I was able to use the fire pit, eat something and then when to take a nap.
The way back
The way back took me less time, google maps is always changing the routes, but this time in a good way, 2hrs and 15 min, it was relaxing to see this nice views again, and it drizzled a little for a moment, so it was also refreshing, I made a little stop for a watch birds place, but it was a quick visit, so I drove away to the commodities at home.
If I need to rate this place, only for the place a 5 out of 5, but for the experience maybe a 3, I didn’t enjoy this stay but because I was not alone, what is not really a problem for anyone else but me, maybe if I knew before that there were gonna be people before I get there, it would be better.
